Hameldown Hammer

The Hameldown Hammer takes place on Dartmoor, starting and finishing in the village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor. The event features three distances.

  • Ultra Hammer: An inaugural ultra-distance trail run.
  • Hammer Half: The 10th edition of a half marathon with over 800 meters of ascent.
  • 7EVEN: The 9th edition of an 8-mile trail run with over 450 meters of ascent.

All courses are based around the Hameldown Ridge and involve a double ascent of this feature. The routes follow well-defined grassy, rocky, and sometimes muddy tracks, with occasional sections through forestry. They offer views of Dartmoor's tors and landscape.

The Hammer Half and 7EVEN courses are fully marked and marshalled, with first aid available. The Ultra Hammer course is partially marked and partially self-navigated, with GPX files and a map provided; participants will be GPS-tracked. There is an 8.5-hour time limit for the ultra, with cut-offs enforced at aid stations.

All finishers receive a bespoke event medal. Event t-shirts and other OuterEdge merchandise are available for purchase online. The event is cupless, so participants must bring their own cup as part of the mandatory kit. Dogs are not permitted to run with participants.
