Rhondda Rollercoaster

South Wales LDWA announce the return of the Rhondda Rollercoaster, departing from Trehafod Community Village Hall in Pontypridd. The event offers two route choices that cross the hills and valleys of the Rhondda area and feature forested climbs, moorland and valley viewpoints.

Distances

  • 26.5 miles, moorland and woods, route via Bwlch y Clawdd, Ton Pentre and Ferndale
  • 16 miles, descends to Dinas then climbs toward Rhondda Golf Club with valley views

Both routes begin with a climb through the forests of Mynydd y Glyn and pass over Mynydd y Cymmer before separating. The longer route follows a revised course over moorland and through woods toward a glacial cwm and views of Bwlch y Clawdd. The shorter route drops to Dinas then rises toward Rhondda Golf Club. The routes reunite for a final climb toward the Tylorstown tip viewpoint before returning to the start.

Participants will be offered tea and toast at the start, indoor and outdoor checkpoints with refreshments along both routes, and a hot meal at the finish. All participants receive a certificate of completion.

Entries open on 1 October 2026 and close on 15 April 2027 or when spaces are full; a waiting list will be used. Minimum age is 18. Entry fees are £20 for LDWA members and £25 for non members. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
