Griffith Park Trail Marathon Relay & 8K : Lower Old Zoo, Griffith Park

The Griffith Park Trail Marathon Relay & 8K takes place on June 7, 2026 at the Lower Old Zoo in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. The event offers a loop trail course through park terrain and was named one of Runner’s World magazine’s 10 Best Races You’ve Never Heard Of in 2024. Course details include mixed surfaces—mostly fireroad with some pavement—and a notable climb of about 1.7 miles followed by flatter, winding sections and a long downhill to the finish, according to participant accounts.

Race services include chip timing for relay results, three well supported aid stations with medical staff (two on course and one at start/finish), free professional race photos for download, and event shirts and finisher medals for participants. The open division carries $1,500 in total cash prizes; trophies or plaques are awarded to the top three teams in each recreational division. Relay-only items include limited edition badges for captains and last leg runners. The festival area at the start/finish features multiple DJs, live music, food trucks, vendors, and an expanded exchange zone and packet pickup sale at Fleet Feet Burbank. The event also introduces the SoCal Showdown and a revised true loop course layout. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
