Grand Canyon of the South Ultras

The Grand Canyon of the South Ultras takes place at Breaks Interstate Park in Breaks, Virginia, and is held entirely on the Virginia side of the park. The event offers multiple trail distances and is presented by Southwest Virginia Running as an inaugural race weekend.

• Morning 10K
• Sunset 10K
• Double 10K (20K total)
• 50K

The park features dramatic sandstone cliffs, expansive overlooks, dense forests, ridgelines, and miles of singletrack cut into Appalachian terrain. The 50K traverses a diverse trail network with rocky sections, flowing singletrack, forested hollows, multiple scenic overlooks, and significant elevation gain and loss. Fully stocked aid stations are provided on the 50K course. All distances encounter technical mountain terrain in places and have a common cutoff time of 8 PM.

The Double 10K comprises participation in both the Morning 10K and Sunset 10K on the same day. Participants in the Double 10K receive official results for both races and are recognized as Double 10K finishers, experiencing the canyon in morning and evening light.

The park supports weekend activities for families and visitors. Registered runners receive a 10% lodging discount at Breaks Interstate Park. Camping is available within the park. Seasonal amenities include a water park, a mountain lake, fishing, paddle boat and kayak rentals, playgrounds, picnic areas, hiking trails, and on-site dining.
