Black Gold 24hr and 12hr Endurance Challenge
The Black Gold Endurance Challenge takes place on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at Belfry High School in Belfry, KY. The event is organized by Tug Valley Road Runners and features multi-hour individual and team formats on a measured loop course around the school track and parking lot.
Event formats include:
- 24 hour individual
- 24 hour relay
- 24 hour rucksack
- 12 hour individual
- 12 hour relay
- 12 hour rucksack
The course is a 1-mile loop beginning and ending on the track. It is largely flat with some downhills, and participants may choose to run the loop in reverse, which adds two hills. The course is open to traffic and is not certified. Chip timing by MyLaps will record laps at timing mats, and relay teams use ankle bracelets; each lap is counted when a participant crosses a timing mat. Rucksack entries require a 25 lb weight that will be weighed before the event and at six hour intervals.
On-site services include home-cooked and donated food, grab-and-go snacks, water, soda, Gatorade, pickle juice, and coffee. Porta potties will be placed along the route. Participants can camp on campus or use indoor locker room space with showers. The event accepts day of registration and is animal friendly. Awards include top male and female in each main division, top rucksack performers, top teams, belt buckles for mileage goals, and small wood cut-outs noting completed miles.
