Course and logistics
The course is a 1 mile loop that begins and ends on the high school track and runs around the school parking lot. It is described as generally flat with some downhills; reversing direction adds two hills after the 50-mile point. The course is open to traffic and is not certified.
Chip timing is used with ankle bracelet tags and shoe tags; laps are recorded when a participant crosses the timing mat. Porta potties will be placed along the route and near the start/finish. Parking is available next to the track. Indoor lodging is available in the soccer locker room with showers, and outdoor camping or sleeping in vehicles is permitted. Available hydration and food include water, soda, Gatorade, pickle juice, coffee, grab-and-go snacks, soup, sandwiches, and community-donated meals. Phone coverage: Verizon and Appalachian Wireless.
