The Glendalough Night Challenge is scheduled for Friday 24th October 2025 in County Wicklow, with the meeting point at Glendalough Upper Lake car park. Entry opens on Monday 20th October 2025 and closes on Friday 24th October 2025. Entry fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. Entry is limited to 220 competitors. There is a car park entry fee of €5 at the upper lake car park. Prizegiving will take place at the Glendalough upper lake car park.
Course, difficulty and race rules
Distances:
- 10.0 km long course
- 4.8 km short course
The long course is a loop around Glendalough that includes an ascent to Derrybawn mountain and sections of the Wicklow Way and St Kevin's Way. The short course loops the lower lake and rejoins the long course for the final 2 km, passing the round tower and St Kevin's church. Total climb is 490 m. The event difficulty is rated 6 (moderate terrain, 200-500 m ascent, 6-10 km). Only major junctions are marked and GPS use is not allowed.
Mandatory kit is Level B - Standard and must be carried: waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or equivalent. Runners must also have a torch suitable for running at night, preferably a head torch; a backup torch or spare battery is recommended. Kit requirements may be finalised on race day and random kit checks may be carried out; missing required items may lead to denial of entry or disqualification.
