Wicklow Glacier Lakes (solo)

Wicklow Glacier Lakes (solo) is a long mountain race in Wicklow County with a distance of 42.70 km and total climb of 1,783 m. The route is not marked and GPS devices are not allowed, so participants must be competent in navigation and prepared for rapidly changing weather.

The race starts on the road at the front door of the Glendalough Hotel and follows high-lake terrain. The event is rated Extreme (level 10) and requires Level C advanced mandatory kit. Required items include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged phone with emergency number, foil blanket or bivvy, full waterproof leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL water, emergency food, map of the route/area, and a compass. The final kit to carry may be confirmed on the day and random kit checks may be carried out.

The race uses chasing starts with time bonuses applied for women and for older age categories; the first team to finish is the winner. There are safety cut-off times at specified checkpoints. CP3 has been moved to the barrier into the forest at Glenmalure (grid ref T108912); lake locations remain unchanged.

Entry closes Friday 17 April 2026. Entry fee is €28. Entry is limited to 35 places; 19 entries have been sold. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
