Event Details

The Altar Ultra is an endurance running event taking place on Saturday, April 25, 2026. It is held at Avondale Forest Park, Beyond the Trees in County Wicklow, Ireland. This will be the second year of the event.

Distances

The event offers three race formats:

  • Altar 50K: An ultra-distance race of approximately 50 km with around 780 meters of elevation gain.
  • Altar 100K: A full 100 km race with approximately 1540 meters of elevation gain.
  • Altar 100K Relay: A team option for the 100 km distance, with a maximum of five runners sharing the effort.

Course Format

The race is run on a looped course within Avondale Forest Park. The main loop distance is 3.2 km. The 100K solo and relay races complete 31 loops. The 50K race consists of a 1.6 km starter loop followed by 15 loops of 3.2 km.

Race Day Information

A central aid station is located at the start/finish area and is accessible every loop. It provides water, snacks, and a product called Altar Speed Dust. Runners can bring their own drop bags for personal nutrition and gear. Time limits are in place: 8 hours for the 50K, and 15 hours for the 100K events (with a requirement to complete 16 loops within the first 7 hours to continue). All runners must carry a waterproof and windproof jacket. Solo and relay runners for the 100K must also carry a head torch with spare batteries.

Facilities and Support

On-site facilities include toilets, a café, a pizzeria, and a family-friendly playground. Two full ambulance crews and a sweep runner are present for safety throughout the event. Every participant receives a finisher medal, a race t-shirt, and a goodie bag. Professional photos are taken and official results are published post-event.
