Gatliff Marathon

The Gatliff Marathon is an annual challenge walk, jog or run held on footpaths and tracks through the Kent, Surrey and Sussex countryside. Entrants follow written route directions and must check in at each checkpoint with the objective of completing their chosen distance within ten hours. The event is organised by Croydon Outdoor Pursuits & Social Events Club and uses Edenbridge Cricket Club Pavilion as the event base.

• 50 km (about 31 miles) with five checkpoints
• 25 km (about 15.5 miles) with two checkpoints

Routes change each year and are not waymarked on the ground. Each entrant receives a detailed written route description with turn-by-turn instructions, key grid references, What3words locations and magnetic bearings. GPX files for the routes are provided. Food and drink provided by the organisers is included in the entry fee; soup and sandwiches are offered at one checkpoint on the 50 km route, with snacks and drinks at all checkpoints. Hot food, tea and showering facilities are available at the finish; some checkpoints have toilet facilities.

Standard entry fees are listed for the two distances with an additional charge for entering on the day. Participants are advised to carry water and wear footwear suitable for off-road walking or running. Recommended items include OS maps, a compass, a waterproof map case, waterproofs and hand sanitiser. Professional first aid cover is provided. A bag room is available at participants' risk. Dogs are permitted on the route, one per person, and must be leashed; dogs are not allowed inside indoor checkpoints or the cricket club. Certificates are issued to those who complete their full distance and have all checkpoint punches recorded, with special certificates for multiple completions of the 50 km event.
