Gatliff Marathon

Gatliff Marathon

The Gatliff Marathon is an annual challenge walk, jog or run with options of 25 km or 50 km, routed mostly on footpaths and tracks through the Kent, Surrey and Sussex countryside. The objective is to complete the chosen distance within ten hours while following written route directions and checking in at each checkpoint.

Entrants receive a detailed written route description, which includes turn-by-turn instructions, grid references, What3words locations, magnetic bearings and a GPX file for navigation. Participants must get their checkpoint card signed or punched at each checkpoint; certificates are issued to those who complete the full distance and have all checkpoint stamps. A special certificate is available for repeated completion milestones on the 50 km route.

All food and drink provided by the organisers is included in the entry fee. The 50 km route has five checkpoints with soup and sandwiches provided at one lunch checkpoint; the 25 km route has two checkpoints. Some checkpoints have toilet facilities. Hot food, drinks and shower facilities are available at the finish and are included in the entry fee.

Entry in advance has a standard fee of £23 for the 50 km route and £21 for the 25 km route, with an additional £2 charge for entering on the day. A bag room is available for luggage at the venue. The event provides professional first aid cover and asks anyone with COVID symptoms or a positive test not to attend.

Essential kit suggestions include water and off-road footwear. Recommended items include OS maps, a compass, a waterproof map case, waterproofs and hand sanitiser. The clock starts when a participant is checked out at the start/finish desk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
