Galty Crossing

The Galty Crossing is a mountain running event situated in County Tipperary. The course covers a distance of 32.00 km and features a total ascent of 1500 m. Due to the nature of the terrain and the distance involved, the event is classified with an extreme difficulty rating.

Participants navigate a route that is not marked, though the use of GPS devices is permitted. The course passes through several notable locations and high points within the Galtee Mountains, including Templehill, Lyracappul, Galty Mór, Galty Beag, and Fearbreaga. The route continues through Slieve an Airde and concludes after passing the Bane trig point and entering a forest fire road.

A mandatory Level C advanced safety kit is required for all participants. This kit includes:

  • A waterproof jacket with an integrated hood and taped seams
  • Waterproof full leg cover
  • A hat or buff, gloves, and a whistle
  • A map of the route and area along with a compass
  • A foil blanket, bivvy bag, or equivalent
  • Emergency food and the means to carry at least 500 mL of water
  • A charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored
