Mountain Trail Running in Waterford

The Crotty's Lake event takes place in the Comeragh Mountains in County Waterford. This mountain running race is part of the Southeast League and uses a combination of marked and unmarked sections; only major junctions are marked on the course. The primary terrain is described as technical and can be slippery, particularly on the loop section around the lake. Because of these conditions, trail runners with significant grip are recommended.

Participants can choose between two course options:

  • 8 km main course featuring 410 m of ascent
  • 5 km short course/junior route

The event is held on private land with specific access permissions. Due to the mountain environment, a Level A basic mandatory kit is required for all runners, which includes a showerproof and windproof jacket. This equipment must be worn or carried for the duration of the race. Use of headphones is not permitted during the event, and race numbers must be displayed on the front of the chest.

The event includes a dedicated route for junior runners with a marshal at the turnaround point. Participants under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a guardian or parent on the course. On-site facilities include car parking for a small fee, and prize giving takes place at the finish area. Registration is limited to 250 participants.
