Fei Sheehy Challenge

The Fei Sheehy Challenge is a multi-day hillwalking event held from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 August 2026. The route crosses three mountain groups on three designated, consecutive days: the Comeragh, Galty and Knockmealdown Mountains. Participants may choose to complete one, two or all three days, listed as Single Crossing, Double Crossing and Treble Crossing.

The event is organised by Na Sléibhte Hillwalking Club and is supported privately by individuals, businesses and the hill walking community. It is endorsed by Mountaineering Ireland. The minimum age for entry is 18 years.

This is a self-navigation and self-reliance event. No walk leaders are provided and participants are expected to use and practice their own mountain navigation and safety skills.

Over the three designated days the cumulative distance and vertical change are approximately:

  • 32 km Comeragh Mountains, 1400 m ascent
  • 30 km Galty Mountains, 1700 m ascent
  • 30 km Knockmealdown Mountains, 1100 m ascent

Trail runs nearby

Trail race at Mount Melleray in County Waterford on Sunday 16 August 2026. The course is about 8.00 km with 250 m of climb; only major junctions are marked and Level B mandatory kit is required.

An open mountain race in County Tipperary to the top of Galtymore and back over Cush and Galtybeg. The full course is 13 km with 1300 m ascent, route unmarked and Level C mandatory kit required.

A mountain trail event at Crotty's Lake in the Comeraghs, County Waterford on 12 September 2026, with a 7 km main course and a 5 km short or junior route. The route is fully marked and a waterproof jacket is mandatory.
