Overview

Frozen Falcon is a winter, looped trail running race held at Falcon Ridge Ski Slopes at Falcon Trails Resort near Falcon Lake, Manitoba in Whiteshell Provincial Park. The event is an 8-hour time-limited race that uses a groomed, multi-use trail. The stated goal is for participants to see how far they can go within the 8-hour period.

Course

The course follows the High Lake Multi-Use Trail. One loop is approximately 6.5 km. The ultimate target is to complete eight loops, which equals just over 50k and earns a special 50k finisher award. An alternate route may be used if trail conditions require it.

Entries and awards

The event cap is 60 participants; five additional spots were added and are sold out. Registration windows and fee tiers were published by the organizer. Awards include a 50k finisher toque and a snowflake patch for repeat 50k finishes, plus recognition for 40 cumulative loops. There are also awards for first place male and female based on furthest distance or faster time to break ties.

Support and safety

Timing is manual with lap check-in required at the central yurt; there is no live tracking. Entry includes access to the groomed trail, the warming yurt, simple aid station food, first aid support with an AED, a race patch, and a post-race meal. Snowshoes are allowed. Participants are strongly encouraged to carry winter safety gear, including an insulated 500 ml beverage container, extra toque, extra windproof jacket, and an emergency blanket.
