Suffer on Centennial is a trail race held in Whiteshell Provincial Park near Falcon Lake and West Hawk Lake, about 160 km east of Winnipeg on Treaty No. 3 Land. Distances offered are:
- 100 km
- 100 km relay (3 to 6 runners)
- 50 km
- 25 km (two laps)
- 8 km (one loop)
The event uses mostly single-track trails on the Canadian Shield with technical, rooty and wet boreal sections, exposed granite ridge-lines, short climbs and some scramble sections. The routes include less than 1 km of roads and several highway crossings on parts of the course. The 100 km and 50 km are point-to-point courses; the 25 km is a two-lap course and the 8 km is a single loop. The 100 km route crosses the red bridge at Hanson’s Creek and uses a new connector trail east of Falcon Lake.
Course support and requirements
Aid stations are stocked and positioned along the course; some have crew and vehicle access while others do not. Cutoff times apply: a total cutoff of 18 hours for the 100 km and 16 hours for the 50 km; there are no cutoffs for the 25 km and 8 km. Mandatory gear requirements include minimum carried hydration for 50 km and 100 km runners (at least 1.5 liters recommended) and additional items for 100 km runners such as a packable waterproof jacket and a cellphone with data. Pacers are allowed for the 100 km from the midrace aid station and must be registered. The finish and awards are at Falcon Trails parking area. Pets are not allowed on course.
