Mantario Marathon
The Mantario Marathon is a two day, self supported stage run on the Mantario Trail in Whiteshell, Manitoba. The total distance is 64 km, split into two stages of about 32 km each, with an overnight campsite at Moosehead Lake.
This is a Fat Ass style event: no entry fee, no aid stations, no organized services and no official event staff. All participants must be self reliant and carry everything needed for two days, including food, water treatment, shelter, clothing, navigation and first aid.
The trail passes through boreal forest and Canadian Shield terrain, with numerous water crossings and often wet and slippery sections. The route is not marked and can be difficult to follow; participants should bring the Mantario Trail map, a compass and download the Mantario GPX file. Expect more than 1500 metres of cumulative ascent and descent. Camping at Moosehead Lake is wilderness camping with no services.
Day two features reversed and staggered starts based on individual times from the first day. The event is inclusive of non binary, female and male categories. The Mantario Marathon has been held on the last full weekend in September since 1980. Registration closes Sun, Sep 20 at 11:59 PM CT. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
