Frosty Squatchy
The Frosty Squatchy is a trail party held on January 30, 2027 in West Orange, New Jesey. This is the tenth running of the event and proceeds are donated to the South Mountain Conservancy. The event is capped at 200 participants across all formats.
Distances and formats:
- 5K loop race
- 3 hours timed event
- 6 hours timed event
- 3H ruck divisions (ruck only for 15 lb or 30 lb dry weights)
The event uses a fixed-timed format on a roughly 5K loop with about 300 ft of elevation gain per loop. The loop is approximately 84% wide carriage roads (crushed gravel or dirt) and 16% technical singletrack with rocks and roots. Course features include a wide dirt first mile, a 200+ ft rocky descent near mile one, a 100 ft climb around mile 2.5, and a final mile of singletrack. The course will be marked with bright ribbon and directional signs. Trekking poles are allowed and grippy shoes are recommended. A detailed trail conditions report is provided before the event.
This event follows a fat-ass format: participants must bring their own fuel and hydration; organizers supply coolers of water at the start/finish and a bib with safety pins. Facilities at Squatch HQ include portable toilets including an ADA unit, private changing tents, a first aid kit with menstrual products and wipes, and an AED. Awards are given to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers. Pacers or guides are permitted for participants over 60 and athletes with disabilities; adaptive support is available. Dogs are not allowed. Parking at Turtleback Rock Picnic Area fits about 110 cars with overflow directed to nearby streets. No refunds or deferrals are offered.
