Friends of Government Canyon Recharge Run 8K/15K

The event takes place on November 7, 2026, at Government Canyon State Natural Area, 12861 Galm Road, San Antonio, TX 78254. It includes in-person and virtual options and serves as the annual fundraiser for the Friends of Government Canyon, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports maintenance and preservation of the natural area. The event is limited to 300 participants.

Race distances:

• 15K trail course with rugged singletrack and steep climbs.
• 8K trail course through oak and juniper woodlands and limestone sections.
• VIRTUAL 15K complete the 15 km distance anywhere; packet mailing option.
• VIRTUAL 8K complete the 8 km distance anywhere; packet mailing option.

All races start and finish at the same location. Each course has an aid station approximately halfway offering Crazy Water, electrolytes, Wildway granola (vegan), and GU Gels on the 15K. The event is cupless; runners should carry a hydration device or request a complimentary HydraPak SpeedCup at packet pickup or aid stations. Every finisher receives a unique medal. Top three overall and top three masters finishers in male, female, and non-binary categories receive a handmade RockStar award. Virtual participants are not eligible for awards; packets for virtual entries will be mailed on or before November 9, 2026.

Parking is offsite at Folks Middle School with bus shuttles to the natural area. Packet pickup is available the day before and the morning of the event. No dogs or strollers are allowed on the courses. In the event of rain or trail closures the race may be moved to paved roads within the natural area. No refunds.
