Freezing Cold Hash FCH

The Freezing Cold Hash (FCH) is a non-competitive running event held in Middlesex County, specifically in the Edison area of New Jersey. This event is organized by the Rumson Hash House Harriers and follows the traditional hash run format where participants follow a trail set by a "hare." To maintain the tradition of mystery, the exact start location is kept secret and is only sent via email to registered participants.

The event offers two primary options for participants:

  • 5 Mile Eagle Trail Run
  • 2 Mile Turkey Group Run

The course traverses varied terrain including trails, woods, and marshes. Participants may encounter natural obstacles such as mud cliffs, ice, snow, and dense vegetation like sticker bushes and low branches. Because the run takes place in wooded areas, there is the possibility of encountering local wildlife or active hunters in the vicinity.

The event is restricted to individuals 21 years or older. Registration does not include official timing, as the focus is on the social experience. Participants are encouraged to bring a canned food donation for the St. Matthews Edison Food Bank. Following the run, there is a social gathering at a secondary secret location where prizes and giveaways are distributed. Participants have the option to volunteer instead of running, and those who do receive themed items such as a pirate sling bag and a skull bandanna.
