The "FREEDOM STARTS HERE" event on Saturday, January 10, 2026 in Pinehurst, NC is a charity run that raises awareness and funds for Sandhills Adult & Teen Challenge. The event offers three race categories:
- 10K Run/Walk
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1-Mile Run/Walk
All proceeds from the event, less operating costs, will go to the charity. In case of winter weather, the event will be held at the same location on January 17, 2026. Registered participants receive an official race t-shirt and a finishers medal; t-shirts cannot be guaranteed for registrations after January 1, 2026. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female in each event category.
Logistics and course
The course runs along the Reservoir Park loop and Whitehall trail in Southern Pines and is described as well maintained and well marked. The event location and parking is at Sandhills Community College near the Sports Complex, 395 Wilbur Blvd, Pinehurst, NC 28374. Packet pickup is available the evening before at Sandhills Horticulture Gardens (3245 Airport Rd) and same-day packet pickup and registration will be available at the event. Aid stations will be placed at the start/finish area and along the route offering water, Gatorade, and snacks. Food trucks and on-site activities will be available for spectators.
