The “FREEDOM STARTS HERE" run takes place on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Pinehurst, NC (395 Wilbur Blvd). It is a charity event that raises awareness and funding for Sandhills Adult & Teen Challenge, a faith-centered recovery program that offers long-term residential recovery, regional support groups, and a Military Specialization Program for veterans and active-duty troops. Net proceeds after operating costs will go to the charity. In case of winter weather, the event will be held at the same location on January 17, 2026.

The event includes the following race categories:

  • 10K Run/Walk
  • 5K Run/Walk
  • 1-Mile Run/Walk

Prizes are planned for the top male and top female in each category. All participants will receive an official race t-shirt and a finisher medal; t-shirts cannot be guaranteed for registrations after January 01, 2026.

Course and logistics

The route runs along the Reservoir Park loop and Whitehall trail in Southern Pines. Organizers state the route will be well maintained and well marked. Parking will be available at Sandhills Community College near the Sports Complex at 395 Wilbur Blvd. Packet pickup is scheduled the evening prior, Friday January 09, 2026, from 6:30-7:30 PM at Sandhills Horticulture Gardens, 3245 Airport Rd, Pinehurst.

Aid stations will be located at the start/finish and along the route with water, Gatorade, and snacks. Participants may set up personal tents, tables, and aid stations in the park area. Reservoir Park offers hiking trails, playgrounds, and fishing; food trucks and on-site activities are also planned. Take on the Derby 50K in Ellerbe North Carolina on Nov 29, a three loop counterclockwise course of rolling hills on asphalt and dirt. Finish with a community spaghetti meal and help support local causes.
