What is Uforea?
Uforea is a trail challenge event organized by the team behind the Uwharrie 100 Mile Run, Uwharrie 100K, and Gold Rush 50K. The name is a play on "euphoria" (runner's high) and "Uwharrie Forest". The event takes place in the Uwharrie National Forest under a Special Use Permit.
Event Format
The event offers three distinct race formats, all run on the trail systems of Uwharrie and Dutchman's Creek. The course for each 50K is approximately 32 miles, consisting of a larger 20.5-mile loop followed by an 11.4-mile loop.
- Uforea Daytime 50K: A clockwise tour of the trails with an 11-hour cutoff.
- Uforea Nighttime 50K: A counter-clockwise tour of the trails with a 12-hour cutoff.
- Ultimate Uforea 100K: This challenge involves completing both the Daytime and Nighttime 50K races. The overall result is based on the lowest combined time from both events.
Participant Limits and Awards
There are participant limits for each category: 50 for the Daytime 50K only, 50 for the Nighttime 50K only, and 100 for the Ultimate Uforea 100K. Overall awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each of the three race categories.
