Four Fans Fell Race

Four Fans is a Category A medium distance fell race of approximately 18 km with around 1200 m of ascent. The course visits four named checkpoints in order and, for 2026, will be run clockwise. The event headquarters is the lay-by opposite Storey Arms on the A470 between Merthyr and Brecon (GR 983203).

Entry is via Fabian4. The entry fee is to be confirmed and WFRA members will likely receive a discount. There is a cut off time of 120 minutes at Fan Nedd which is to be confirmed.

Navigational Skills are required as a condition of entry; competitors must be competent with map and compass. Use of GPS for navigational purposes is not allowed except in an emergency and may result in a non competitive classification. Fell running experience is also required and competitors may be asked to demonstrate suitable experience. Full kit is required, with kit checks at the start and finish, and waterproofs are likely to be needed due to frequently inclement weather.

The course includes crossing the Heol Senni mountain road and two river crossings at Afon Llia and the confluence of the Nant y Gwair and Nant y Gaseg. Competitors should not jump fences or walls as this will result in disqualification; stiles should be used where provided. Dogs are not permitted except registered service dogs.

Emergency procedures include sounding a whistle with six blasts repeated every minute, moving to a visible location if mobile, and contacting Mountain Rescue via 112 or 999 through the police with a full grid reference. If retiring, competitors should inform the Race Organiser and return their Fabian4 wristband. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
