Midnight Mountain Marathon
The Midnight Mountain Marathon is a set of trail races held in Brecon, Wales, within the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons). The event includes four race options: a Marathon, a Half Marathon, and a bergen edition of each distance that adds a heavy pack.
Racing begins in daylight and continues into the hours of night, so some competitors may require a torch. Routes run on mountain trails and include significant ascent; the full Marathon route includes the "fan dance" featuring Pen Y Fan. Finishers receive medals and mugs of tea.
Distances and format:
- Marathon: 26 miles, 3500 ft climbing
- Half Marathon: 13.1 miles, 2000 ft climbing
- Marathon Bergen: Marathon with a 45 lb bergen
- Half Marathon Bergen: Half Marathon with a 45 lb bergen
Additional event material notes that the format blends daylight and night running and that the bergen versions add a substantial load. The description focuses on mountain trail terrain and measured ascent figures for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
