Coity Fell Race

The Coity Fell Race has been held since 1986 and takes place at The Whistle Inn, Garn yr Erw, Blaenavon NP4 9SJ. The event is run as a fell race under Category BS and is described as suitable for "fell virgins".

Course options:

  • 8 km with 300 m ascent
  • 5 with 984 ft ascent

There are limited changing facilities; specifically, the organisers note that there are no changing facilities. Parking at the pub is limited; alternative parking is available at Garn Lakes and on surrounding roads. Toilets, beer and food are available in the pub.

Entries are accepted on the day or via online entry. The event page lists past results back to 1986.

Safety and kit guidance is emphasised. Competitors are expected to take primary responsibility for their own safety and to carry appropriate kit, for example windproof full body cover, waterproof full body cover when appropriate, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food for longer races. The page notes that under WFRA safety requirements the above minimum kit is mandatory for Category A long and medium races. Runners should understand the organiser's drop out procedures and must notify officials if they retire. The organisers also advise recognising signs of hypothermia and hypoglycaemia and that first aid may not be readily available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
