Coity Fell Race
The Coity Fell Race is an event organised by Pont-y-pwl and District Runners. It began in 1986 and is described as suitable for people new to fell running as well as more experienced runners. The event is listed as Category BS and presents two route options.
- 8 km / 300 m
- 5 miles / 984 ft
The race base is The Whistle Inn, Garn yr Erw, Blaenavon, NP4 9SJ. There is limited parking at the pub; alternative parking is available at Garn Lakes and surrounding roads. Toilets, beer and food are available in the pub. There are no changing facilities at the venue. Entries are accepted on the day or via online entry.
Organisers emphasise runner responsibility for safety on the fells. Competitors are advised to carry appropriate kit for the conditions, for example windproof full body cover, waterproof full body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food for longer races. Runners should have the navigational skills needed for the terrain and know how to recognise and respond to hypothermia and hypoglycaemia. If a competitor retires they must notify officials at the finish or the nearest checkpoint marshal before leaving. The guidance notes that first aid may not be readily available in fell race settings. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
