Fountainhead Half Marathon and 10K Trail Run
The Fountainhead event is a trail running race at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, VA. It offers two measured course options that follow sections of the Bull-Run Occoquan Trail and several lesser used side trails. The half marathon course includes an extended six mile stretch of the Bull-Run Occoquan Trail and three side trails. The shorter course uses a portion of the same trail system and one side trail that includes a steep climb.
Course surfaces include rocks and roots and several stream crossings. Reported elevation gain is about 1,400 feet for the half course and about 700 feet for the shorter course. Aid and facilities are provided on course: all aid stations offer water and Gatorade, the half marathon has seven aid stations and the shorter course has four. An aid station near mile seven on the half course supplies snacks and a portajohn. Portable toilets are available at the start and finish and at multiple points on each course.
The event is open to all runners and also serves as the Collegiate Running Association US Trail Running Championship. Race rules limit in-ear headphones, prohibit pets, pacers, and strollers on course, and require racers to stay on designated trails and report if they drop out.
