The Founders Half Marathon is a 13.1-mile out-and-back race held in Potomac, MD, based at the North Parking for Carderock Cliffs / Carderock Recreation Area. It is race #2 of the DCRR Snowball Series and honors the club’s founders. The course runs along the C&O Canal Towpath and is USATF certified; the organizers plan to re-certify the course before race day.
Course, services and entry
There are two water stops at C&O Canal Locks 10 and 6. These correspond to about miles 3, 5, 8, and 10, and each water stop is passed twice on the out-and-back route. Timing and results will be compiled in real time, and friends and family will be able to track runners via social media; a link for live results will be provided in the final instructions to runners. Registration is online only, with advance registration accepted through the evening before the race (12/13). Entry fees are $0 for club members and $10 for non-members. If the race is canceled, prepaid non-members will receive a credit for a future Snowball Series race. Post-race food includes bagels, spreads, hot drinks, Gatorade, bananas, and similar items. No t-shirts or medals will be provided. Volunteers are needed to support water stations, setup, food service, marshaling, and course cleanup.
