MD Heat Trail Race

The event on August 15, 2026 is a trail running race held at the Patapsco Pickall Area, 8125 Johnnycake Rd, Elkridge, MD. Distances offered include:

  • 50K - two loops of the 25K course.
  • 25K - single loop.

The course is primarily rolling single track with two river crossings and a very short paved section through a parking area. Runners will encounter more than 2,000 feet of vertical gain, a mix of technical rocky sections and smoother runnable stretches, and several healthy climbs. The route includes three out-and-back sections; one reaches Valley Overlook, where participants pick up a wrist band to verify completion. 50K runners collect a wrist band for each loop.

Aid stations are located at approximately 2, 5.25, 8, 11.5, and 16 miles. Stations provide water, Tailwind, and real food with both sweet and savory options; gels are not supplied. At the finish area there are two large pavilions with food, beer, bathrooms, and shelter.

Parking is available on-site adjacent to the pavilions but is not unlimited. Organizers note limited spots for participants and spectators. For 50K entrants, organizers generally allow about five hours per loop and will not allow a second loop to begin if the first loop is completed after 12pm.
