The MD Heat Trail Race is an off-road event held in the Patapsco Pickall Area in Elkridge, Maryland. The event offers two distance options:
- 50K
- 25K
The course is primarily rolling single track with two river crossings and a short paved section through a parking area. Runners will encounter more than 2,000 feet of vertical gain, a mix of technical rocky sections and smoother runnable stretches, and a couple of significant climbs. The 50K is run as two loops of the 25K course. The route includes three out-and-back sections; one reaches Valley Overlook where participants must pick up a wrist band. 50K finishers are required to have two wrist bands to be credited with a finish. Organizers limit second-loop starts for 50K entrants if the first loop is completed after 12:00 pm, effectively allowing about five hours per loop.
Aid stations are located at approximately 2 miles, 5.25 miles, 8 miles, 11.5 miles, and 16 miles. Stations provide Tailwind, water, and real food; packaged gels are not provided by organizers. The start/finish area is adjacent to pavilions with on-site bathrooms and shelter. Parking is available on-site but limited.
