Forge the Gorge at Fillmore Glen State Park

Forge the Gorge is a trail race held within Fillmore Glen State Park, offering two off-road distances. The course starts near the park entrance and follows wooded trails on the north and south rims of the Fillmore Glen Gorge, with a brief stretch on a quiet park road.

  • 3-mile course that peels off the long course about halfway to the finish.
  • 8-mile course made up of two scenic, partially overlapping loops.

The route includes steep stairs in the opening and closing miles, sections where the trail drops into the gorge, and multiple creek crossings over bridges. The course is well marked and water stops are provided. Results are posted during the race via Webscorer and later on the Finger Lakes Runners Club site. The event counts toward the Finger Lakes Trail Circuit standings, including Stonehead, Pebblehead, and Boulderhead categories.

Registration is online only and remains open until two hours before the race. Entry fee details include a standard fee, a member discount, free registration for runners 18 and under, and a code to waive the fee for financial need. Bib pick-up is at the main pavilion at Fillmore Glen State Park; park entry requires an Empire Pass or the applicable vehicle fee.

Policies note that dogs, headphones, and jogging strollers are not allowed and that footing is uneven; participants should expect possible hazards such as mud, fallen logs, insects, and road crossings. Awards are given by overall and age-group categories and the event follows an award equity commitment for equal podium spots and prize equity.
