Forge the Gorge - Fillmore Glen State Park
Forge the Gorge is a trail race organized by the Finger Lakes Runners Club at Fillmore Glen State Park in Moravia, NY. The event offers two distances:
- 3 mile
- 8 mile
The 8 mile course uses two partially overlapping loops. The 3 mile course splits from the longer route about halfway and heads directly to the finish. All runners start near the park entrance. The route follows wooded trails on the north and south rims of the Fillmore Glen Gorge, includes a short section on a quiet park road, and descends into the gorge with repeated creek crossings over a series of bridges. The course is well marked and water stops are provided. The route includes many stairs in the first and last miles.
Bib pick-up is at the main pavilion at Fillmore Glen State Park (1686 Route 38, Moravia, NY). Parking requires an Empire Pass or payment of a vehicle fee. Online registration is required and remains open until two hours before the race; there is no in-person registration. Entry fees and concessions: $20 registration, a $5 discount for FLRC members, free for runners 18 and under, and a registration coupon code is available to waive the fee.
Awards are presented for first overall male and female, and for first male and female in age groups 1–10, 11–18, 19–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+. The top three nonbinary runners receive the same awards as age-group winners regardless of age.
Facilities at the park include restrooms, showers, and a swimming hole near the finish. Results are available during the race via Webscorer and later on the FLRC website. The race is part of the Finger Lakes Trail Circuit and counts toward Stonehead, Pebblehead, and Boulderhead standings.
The race organizers list typical trail hazards such as uneven and potentially dangerous footing, insect bites, mud, fallen logs, and vehicles at road crossings. No dogs, headphones, or jogging strollers are allowed. Entry fees are non-refundable, and the race director may modify or cancel the event for safety or environmental reasons. Accommodations for disability are available through the FLRC Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
