Five Gold Rings is a trail running event presented by Essex Trail Events on 29 December 2025. The race offers three distance options and is based at The Chequers, Felsted, Dunmow (CM6 3DL). The event uses self navigation with a written route description issued on the day. There are no course markings, no marshals and no GPX file. This is not a mass start event. Participants will be timed out and back in at the finish.

Entry, rules and other information

Entry fees are £9 for affiliated runners and £11 for unaffiliated runners; a small booking fee applies. Each entry includes a £4 voucher to use in the pub on the day. There will be no refunds except if the race is cancelled. Results will be posted on the Essex Trail Events website. Running with dogs is not permitted in line with UKA events. Age restrictions apply for young trail runners: under 12 maximum 3 km, under 14 maximum 5 km, under 16 maximum 6 km, under 17 maximum 10 km, under 18 maximum 25 km. Runners under 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult. If entering others, the organiser requires their contact and consent details before the entry closing date. Race the Trifarm Winter 10k, the final round of a four event trail series at Trifarm near Boreham. Enjoy a mostly off road clockwise route away from the river and a championship deciding atmosphere with just 50 places available.

Join a regional colour coded orienteering event at Highwoods Country Park, Colchester on Sunday 7 December with courses for all abilities up to a 7.0 km Blue course. Enjoy woodland and grassland terrain, waterproof maps and a friendly vibe.

Take part in the Essex Vets XC Championships on 13 December 2025 in Epping Forest for a tough and scenic 8k on forest trails. Veteran races and team prizes across age groups; entries online only until 7 December.

Night street orienteering in Colchester on 17 December from the Berechurch Arms. Choose a 3.4 km short or 5.4 km long course, use MapRun or printed maps and hunt controls by torchlight for a fun, technical evening.
