Fat Ass Trail Run at Batawa Ski Hill

The Fat Ass Trail Run began in 2003 with 23 participants and has grown into a recurring trail event at Batawa Ski Hill. The race offers multiple distances and formats on natural trail terrain.

Course and conditions: the route includes rocks, roots, wide trails, single track, wooden bridges, creek crossings, hills and meadows. Conditions may include mud or snow depending on weather. Participants are asked to avoid or keep headphones low for safety and passing.

Aid stations and medical: there are three aid stations stocked with water, Tailwind and snacks. The event is cupless; participants must bring their own flask, speed cup or bladder. First aid is provided by a professional medical provider.

Rules and logistics: the 50 km has a strict cutoff and requirements for running after dark; pacers are permitted only on the final loop and poles are allowed. No refunds are offered; transfers between participants are permitted until October 31 and are handled at the participants' expense. Fat Ass shirts and Bad Ass swag require preordering by October 25.

Parking and awards: ample parking is available at Batawa Ski Hill with overflow at the Batawa Community Centre; attendees are asked not to block residential driveways. No participation medals are issued to all finishers; medals go to first, second and third place male and female per distance, and children in the kids race receive participant ribbons. The Last Hour is the final Happy Hour Friday Night Series race, an 8 km trail run at Vanderwater Conservation Area featuring pine groves, boulder fields and riverside trails. No aid stations; parking fees apply.
