The First Hour: Part of the Happy Hour Series

The First Hour is a trail running event held in the Goodrich Loomis Conservation Area in Brighton, Ontario. This event serves as the first installment of the Happy Hour Series, organized by Dirty Soles. The run focuses on a community atmosphere and informal participation rather than competitive placement awards.

The course covers a distance of 8 km, though the specific length may vary between 6 km and 8 km depending on the prevailing trail conditions at the time of the event. Participants traverse a variety of natural terrain features:

  • A course including hills, rocks, and roots.
  • Pathways featuring mossy log bridges.
  • Sections that may be slippery underfoot.

The event is conducted without on-course aid stations. Water is provided at the start and finish line, but the race operates as a cupless event, requiring participants to bring their own water bottles. Facility access is limited to a portable toilet located near the parking lot of the conservation area.

Timing for the race is recorded manually. While no medals are awarded for individual races, participants who complete all four events in the series receive a custom medal and prize at the final race. Additional unique awards are presented based on cumulative time spent on the courses across the series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
