Fancy Nonsense 25k/50k

The Fancy Nonsense 25k/50k is a trail running event held at Red Gate Woods in the Palos Trail System near Willow Springs and Lemont, Illinois. The event uses a 5.5 mile loop that runners repeat until they reach their target distance. The loop is mostly single track and is described as entirely runnable. Major intersections are marked and runners receive a fully marked course map at packet pickup.

Distances offered:

  • 50K
  • 25K
  • 5 Miler

Aid stations are placed along the course: two for the 25K and five for the 50K. Stations are stocked with water, soda, snacks, doughnuts, and other typical ultra fare. Crews can meet runners at Red Gate Woods. No pacers are allowed. The cutoff time for both race distances is 5pm.

Organizing group CUSS Running emphasizes a whimsical approach to ultrarunning. The event includes provisions aimed at inclusion: a number of free entries are reserved for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ athletes and entries are handled privately as funding allows. Organizers accept each entrant’s declared gender without requiring supporting evidence, and non-binary athletes can request pronoun accommodations after registration.
