Fancy Nonsense : Palos Trail 25K/50K

Fancy Nonsense is a trail ultramarathon held at Red Gate Woods in the Palos Trail System, roughly 20 minutes from downtown Chicago. The event offers the following distances:

  • 25K
  • 50K

The course runs on a semi-technical, mostly single track loop of about 5.5 miles. The loop is run in a clockwise direction, with aid and race headquarters located at the loop start and finish. Aid stations will carry typical ultra fare and hydration options including water, Gatorade, Coke, and ginger ale; organizers can accommodate specific requests.

Crew may set up at the aid station to assist runners, but pacers are not allowed. There is a porta potty at the aid station. Major intersections on the course will be marked and there will be a short pre-race briefing. Each participant receives a fully marked course map at packet pickup; many unmarked trails exist in the area but they will not be used for the race.

Logistics noted by the organizer include a cutoff time of 5pm for both races and a registration deadline of September 15 for a guaranteed shirt. Packet pickup is scheduled on race day for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
