FRTR Retro Cross Country Race (5K)
The Fox River Trail Runners present the third annual retro cross-country race, held on Saturday, August 8, 2026. The event is a 5K run staged at Settler's Hill Cross Country Course, directly behind the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva. The format emphasizes classic cross-country elements such as manual timing, popsicle-stick scoring, and team scoring.
Entry fees are listed as $10 for FRTR members and $12 for non-members; the member discount is applied after member validation. Participants may register individually or as part of a team. Teams must include a minimum of five and a maximum of seven runners to be eligible for team scoring. All finishers receive an official time regardless of team status.
Course access and logistics note that parking is available in the Fox Valley Ice Arena lot at no charge and is accessible from Kirk Road. Spectators follow a marked route of about one-third of a mile from the parking lot to the start and finish area; this route includes a significant hill that may require extra time or effort. No strollers, dogs, walkers, roller-skaters, or bikes are permitted in the race, and the use of headphones or electronic devices is strongly discouraged for safety.
Portable restrooms will be available behind the starting line, including one handicap accessible unit. All event proceeds will be donated by FRTR to support the Settler's Hill Cross Country Course, which is maintained by the Chicago Area Track & Field Organizing Committee as a venue for school and public use. After finishing, participants may visit the FRTR Vintage Closet for random, retro swag. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
