40/50 Mile Challenge - Busse Woods
The 40/50 Mile Challenge is a continuous loop endurance race held on the Busse Woods Loop Trail within Ned Brown Forest Preserve. Runners complete repeated laps of a 3.1 mile (5K) loop that returns to a centralized start/finish area with a fully stocked aid station at every lap.
The trail surface is primarily smooth crushed limestone and packed gravel with occasional paved connector sections. The terrain is mostly flat and not technical, and the loop format simplifies navigation and logistics so runners can focus on pacing, fueling, and recovery.
Support and logistics include access to personal supplies from a designated staging area each lap, crew access in designated areas, allowance for pacers under event rules, and medical and race staff on site throughout the event. The event runs alongside The Next Loop Endurance Series on the same course; Next Loop participants follow an hourly format while 40/50 Mile Challenge runners run continuously and are scored separately.
The event offers a 12 hour time limit and distances of:
- 40 Mile
- 50 Mile
Registration is limited to ensure course quality and runner support. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
