Falcon Crest Winter Trail Challenge

The Falcon Crest Winter Trail Challenge is a trail running event on the Monte Vista / Falcon Crest trails in El Dorado Hills, CA, on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Distances offered include a range from short trail loops up to a full trail marathon.

The course is almost entirely single-track trail on dirt and rock with minimal pavement. The terrain features rolling hills with frequent ups and downs, some technical sections, shaded stretches, and exposed areas. There is a creek crossing on the route where rocks can be slippery and wet feet are likely.

Time limits are enforced by distance, with an overall eight hour limit; specific course time limits are set for each distance (for example 5K - 1 hour, 10K - 2 hours, 15K - 2.5 hours, half marathon - 4 hours, 30K - 5 hours, marathon - 8 hours). Courses are marked with ribbons, signs, and gypsum.

Aid stations and portable toilets are located on course and at the start/finish. Drop bags may be checked and delivered to selected aid stations; crews are allowed at specified aid stations for longer distances. Parking is free at the Falcon Crest gravel lot but limited; an alternate Old Salmon Falls lot has a day use fee of about $10. Medical staffing includes at least one EMT. All finishers receive a medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
