The Fairytale of Newquay

The Fairytale of Newquay is a festive coastal trail event on the north Cornwall coast with three timed distances and canicross entries accepted. Registration takes place at the Mermaid Inn in Newquay and the event finishes at Porth Beach.

Distances:

  • Pisky, 8 miles, out-and-back Porth Beach to Mawgan Porth
  • Long Half, 15 miles, starts from Harlyn Bay area, transfer by bus
  • Ultramarathon, 30 miles, coastal route finishing at Porth Beach

Runners other than Pisky entrants will be issued a GPS tracker with a live link and all longer-distance entries undergo a kit check before the race. There are checkpoints along the routes - one for the Long Half and three for the Ultramarathon - and a water point at the Pisky turnaround. Cut-off times apply for each distance.

All participants must carry essential safety kit. Required items include a fully charged mobile phone with charger or battery pack, the issued GPS tracker, head torch, spare warm clothing in a waterproof bag, a hi-vis top or reflective strips, a small first aid kit, nutrition and at least 800 ml of fluid, a waterproof top, a survival bag that is not a foil blanket, a whistle, a compass or phone app, collapsible cup, NOK details on paper in a waterproof bag, and a small amount of cash for emergencies. Kit is individual and will be checked; failure to carry required items may prevent participation.

All finishers receive a Fairytale of Newquay medal and there are awards for top finishers. Final race information is sent to entrants and posted by the organisers before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
