Enchanted Forest Trail Races : Red River, New Mexico

The Enchanted Forest Trail Races take place in Red River, New Mexico on July 25, 2026. The event includes three distances that run on trails in Carson National Forest and the Enchanted Forest cross-country ski area. The start and finish are at Brandenburg Park in downtown Red River. The courses pass through town on a short paved section, use dirt Old Pass Road and singletrack river trails, and include sections that may be off obvious trails with tree markings.

Courses, aid stations and awards

  • 26.5 miles - Trail Marathon; elevation gain about 4,000 ft; high point 10,480 ft.
  • 14.7 miles - Heavy Half Marathon; elevation gain about 1,600 ft; high point 10,200 ft.
  • 7.6 miles - The Face Challenge; elevation gain about 1,400 ft; high point 10,480 ft.

Marathoners run a 5.5-mile loop in the ski area, return to town, then climb a steep ski slope called The Face with an exposed 1/4 mile ascent to the top of the Platinum lift. Aid stations are located along the courses and will have ice water, sports gels, potato chips, Skittles, and an electrolyte drink. Cups will not be provided; stations have radio contact and basic medical supplies. Awards include top three male and female finishers by age groups (Under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+), finisher mementos at the finish, and place awards presented at the awards ceremony.
