Enchanted Forest Trail Races

Event overview
The Enchanted Forest Trail Races take place in Red River, New Mexico on July 25, 2026. Races use trails in the Carson National Forest and the Enchanted Forest cross-country ski area and finish in downtown Red River at Brandenburg Park. Packet pick-up is available the day before and on race morning at local event locations.
Distances and course features
- 26.5 miles - Trail Marathon
- 14.7 miles - Heavy Half Marathon
- 7.6 miles - The Face Challenge
The courses include pavement through town, dirt double-track and jeep roads, singletrack river trail, dense forest sections often without a defined trail, and steep ski-slope climbs. The marathon route includes a 5.5-mile loop in the ski area and a steep ascent up "The Face" with a roughly 1/4-mile, trail-less section to reach the ski-lift intersection.
Elevation and support
Elevations range from about 8,670 ft to over 10,200 ft depending on distance. Published elevation gains include approximately 4,000 ft for the marathon, about 1,600 ft for the half, and about 1,400 ft for The Face Challenge. Aid stations provide ice water, sports gels, chips, candy, and an electrolyte drink. Cups are not provided; radio contact and medical materials will be available at aid stations.
Rules, awards and registration
Dogs on leashes are allowed at the start/finish and aid stations but not on course. Runners must stay on the marked course; shortcutting may lead to disqualification. Top three male and female finishers in each age group receive customized awards; overall winners receive comp entries to the following year. Awards are given at the race and are not mailed. Entry fees are nontransferable. Cancellations 30 days or more before the event receive an 85% credit; no credit is given less than 30 days prior.
