Enchanted Forest Trail Races in Red River, New Mexico

The event on July 25, 2026 includes three trail races in Red River, New Mexico, held around the Enchanted Forest cross-country ski area and Carson National Forest.

  • Marathon about 26 miles with almost 5000 feet of climbing
  • Heavy Half Marathon 14.7 miles with over 2400 feet of climbing
  • The Face Challenge about 7 miles with roughly 2400 feet of elevation gain

Courses begin in town and use a short paved section on HWY 578 before moving onto dirt roads, double track, singletrack and ski area terrain. Key course features include an aid station at 1.4 miles, the Switchback aid station near mile 4, the Enchanted Forest aid station near mile 7.4, a 5.5-mile loop through dense forest used in the marathon, and a final climb up The Face to the Platinum lift area with a steep 1600 foot ascent. The half marathon finishes at the Base Camp aid station and returns to the start area in town. An alternate marathon route may be used due to windstorm damage and cleanup from 2023.

Start and finish areas are at Brandenburg Park in downtown Red River. Aid stations carry ice water, sports gels, chips, skittle, and an electrolyte drink; stations have radio contact and basic medical supplies. Dogs on leashes are allowed at the start, finish and aid stations but are not permitted on course with runners. Awards include finisher mementos at the line and customized awards for top three male and female finishers in standard age groups; awards are not mailed after the event.
