Eastern States: Blackout
Eastern States: Blackout is a three night camp in Lock Haven, PA that runs overnight sections of the Eastern States 100 course on trails in the PA Wilds. Participants sleep at Ponderosa Lodge and return there between outings for meals and recovery. Daytime hours are left open for optional activities and informal clinics.
Each night covers a different real stretch of the ES100 course on rugged, remote trails. Routes are subject to change but will likely include point to point segments typically in the 10 to 20 mile range. Night runs include steep climbs, rocky singletrack, creek beds, dense forest, and long technical descents that require attention to footing and gear.
Night 1 follows Hyner to Big Trail with an intermediate stop at Dry Run. Night 2 travels from Tomb Flats to Blackwell via Cedar Run and West Rim Trail. Night 3 moves from Big Trail to Tomb Flats and is mostly downhill with substantial elevation loss.
Support and logistics are limited. Transportation is provided to and from each run segment. Each night includes one staffed aid station on nights one and two; there is no aid on night three. Pre-run light meals and breakfasts are provided at the lodge. Participants should plan to carry fluids, nutrition, lights, and weather appropriate layers for extended self supported stretches.
