Eastern States: Blackout - June 11 - 14, 2026
Eastern States: BLACKOUT is a three-night camp in Lock Haven, PA that focuses on running representative night sections of the Eastern States 100 course under guided support. Participants run real, rugged trail segments on the actual course to practice navigation, pacing, gear, and night-time footing.
Each night covers long, point-to-point trail stretches through the PA Wilds with varied terrain: steep climbs, rocky singletrack, dense forest, creek crossings, and extended technical descents. Night runs are designed to replicate race conditions with limited on-course support.
Distances by night:
- Night 1: Hyner to Big Trail - 13.4 mi, gain 3,246 ft, loss 1,938 ft
- Night 2: Tomb Flats to Blackwell - 17.6 mi, gain 2,943 ft, loss 2,815 ft
- Night 3: Big Trail to Tomb Flats - 6.3 mi, gain 1,397 ft, loss 2,765 ft
Support and logistics are structured to mirror race realities. Transportation is provided to and from run segments. Each evening includes a light pre-run meal and each morning a full breakfast. On-course support is limited: staffed aid is available at Dry Run on Night 1 and Cedar Run on Night 2; Night 3 has no aid. Expect self-supported stretches of roughly 8 to 10 miles between aid options.
Accommodations and daytime programming center on recovery and learning. Registration includes three nights at Ponderosa Lodge (single-person bed), transportation, meals noted above, and access to optional daytime activities and informal clinics. The hosting organization manages the event with a focus on trail stewardship and responsible use of public lands. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
