Franklin Academy 6th Annual Double Helix 1.75 Mile Race

The event is a campus race day at Franklin Academy in East Haddam, Connecticut. It features a looped 1.75 mile course designed as two weaving loops around the campus and additional short races for children. The event runs rain or shine and offers on-site day-of registration for a fee.

Distances

  • 1.75 Mile race for the general public
  • Kids run, ages 7 to 12 one full lap around the soccer field
  • Younger kids run, ages 6 and under half a lap around the soccer field

Course and facilities

The 1.75 mile course is mostly packed, rocky dirt with some pavement and short grass sections. There are several hills and a fast downhill finish. There will be two water stops on the course; the loop allows for three passes by a water stop. Post-race refreshments include Italian ice, watermelon, bananas, and pretzels. Two indoor single-use bathrooms are available in the Dining Hall next to registration.

Rules, awards, and extras

Reused trophies and occasional items of Franklin swag are awarded three deep in multiple categories. A cash prize is available for a new course record. Leashed dogs are permitted with proof of current vaccinations submitted in advance. Non-traditional modes of racing are welcome and may register for free if approved; style and spirit awards may be given. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
