Nipmuck South Trail Race - Mansfield, CT

The Nipmuck South Trail Race takes place in Mansfield Hollow State Park at the picnic area off Bassetts Bridge Road. The event includes two distances held entirely within or starting from the park and uses nearby parking close to the start and finish. Volunteers provide parking directions.

The longer route is an out-and-back mostly on the Nipmuck Trail that covers about 15.7 miles, follows the Fenton River for much of the course, and includes three water stops and support at road crossings. Terrain features include small bridge crossings, fields, woods, and a climb to a 50-foot cliff before reaching Old Turnpike Road near Route 44.

A new 5K course for 2026 remains inside the park with no road crossings. It begins with an opening stretch, follows a runnable single-track forest loop, uses the Flood Line Trail and Blue Trail for technical sections, and takes a Yellow Trail detour for the final loop. The last mile contains several short steep hills. The course will be marked with flagging and signs.

Pre-registration is recommended; race day registration is accepted at a higher price and is cash only. Race shirts are available as an add-on during registration with orders required before May 22. Proceeds support Connecticut trail stewardship organizations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
