The Gaylord Gauntlet

The Gaylord Gauntlet is an annual obstacle run held on the 400-acre campus of Gaylord Specialty Healthcare in Wallingford, Connecticut. The event takes place on a rural setting consisting of wooded trails and open fields. Participants navigate a course that features a total of 24 obstacles, including both natural and man-made challenges such as vine swings and a rock wall climb. While mud is present, the course is designed to emphasize upper body strength.

The event is available to participants of various experience levels and is open to individuals aged 12 and older. Specific provisions and information are available for adaptive athletes with physical or visual disabilities. The race serves as a fundraiser for the Gaylord Sports Association, supporting adaptive sports and recreation programs.

The event includes a central festival area for participants and supporters. This area features:

  • Local vendors
  • Live music
  • Food trucks

The operation of the course and festival is managed by a team of approximately 150 volunteers and staff members. The event is held on the grounds of a long-term acute care hospital, bringing the local community together for a day focused on fitness and supporting hospital-based sports initiatives.
