Event overview

The Dorset Hillfort Ultra is a long-distance trail run based in Maiden Newton, Dorset. The route is about 35.9 miles with approximately 1,300 m of ascent. The course runs between ancient hillforts and follows public rights of way with a small amount on quiet roads. Around 80% of the route is off road on turf and tracks that may be uneven, muddy, or hard-baked. Entries are transferable but non-refundable. The published entry fee is £50.

There are six intermediate stations that provide water, squash and food such as cake and flapjack; gluten-free and vegan options are available if notified in advance. Maiden Castle also offers sandwiches. Two intermediate timing points are at 17 and 27 miles. Cut-off times are calculated on a 10 hour finish.

Navigation, kit and rules

GPX files, maps and turn-by-turn notes will be available. Marshalls will be positioned at busy crossings, but runners are responsible for crossing safely. Minimum kit requirements include an emergency snack, charged mobile phone, waterproof jacket and hat, and a refillable water container. Runners must close gates and follow The Countryside Code; failure to close gates may lead to disqualification.
