Dorset Hillfort Ultra
The Dorset Hillfort Ultra is a long distance running event based in Maiden Newton, Dorset. The route runs between ancient hillforts and covers about 35.9 miles with approximately 1,300 m of ascent. The course follows public rights of way, with around 80% off road on old turf and tracks and a small amount on quiet roads.
There are six intermediate aid stations offering water and squash; runners must refill their own containers. Cake and flapjack are available at each control, with gluten free and vegan options for those who notify organisers in advance. Maiden Castle control also provides sandwiches. Two intermediate timing points are located at 17 and 27 miles and cut off times are calculated on a 10 hour finish.
Navigation support includes GPX files, maps and turn by turn notes. Marshalls will be positioned at busy crossings, but runners are responsible for crossing only when it is safe. Gates on the route must be closed behind runners and failure to do so may lead to disqualification. Entries are transferable but non refundable.
Minimum recommended kit includes an emergency energy bar, a charged mobile phone, a waterproof jacket and hat, a water bottle or hydration pack and a small dedicated race pack. Tea and coffee are available near the start and finish and on street parking is available nearby. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
