The Dorset Hillfort Ultra is organised by Green Jersey Events and takes place in Maiden Newton, Dorset. The route is about 35.9 miles with approximately 1,300 m of ascent. The course is on public rights of way with a small amount on quiet roads; about 80% is off road on turf and tracks that may be uneven, muddy or hard-baked. Entries are transferable for the same year but refunds or deferrals are not offered. The entry fee is £50.

Course and navigation

The route links historic hillforts and passes Eggardon Hill, Abbotsbury Castle and viewpoints over Lyme Bay and Portland Bill. Key intermediate locations and approximate mileages noted in the route description include water at 5 miles, an aid station near Uploders at 10 miles, Abbotsbury Castle at 17.5 miles, Hardy Monument (drinks) at 22 miles, Maiden Castle at 28 miles, and the final aid station at Muckleford around 31.5 miles. There are two intermediate timing points at 17 and 27 miles. GPX files, maps and turn-by-turn notes will be available and marshalls will be positioned on busy crossings.

Aid stations, safety and logistics

There are six intermediate stations. Water and squash are provided at all controls; runners must fill their own containers. Cake, flapjack and similar items are available at each control; gluten-free and vegan options are available for those who notify organisers in advance. Maiden Castle control will also offer sandwiches. Cut-off times are based on a 10 hour finish. Minimum recommended kit includes an emergency snack, a charged mobile phone with data and wifi turned off, a waterproof jacket and hat, and a water bottle or Camelbak. There is on-street parking near the start and finish, tea and coffee at both locations, food at the finish, and WCs at the start and finish.
