Dirty German Trail Races
The Dirty German Trail Races take place in Pennypack Park, Philadelphia, offering a variety of distances for trail runners. The event is designed with a fast and runnable course, featuring surfaces such as soft single track, sandy spots along the creek, flat gravel trails, and approximately one mile of paved bike trail per loop. While the course includes some elevation, the climbs are brief.
Participants can choose from three main distances:
- 25K: A single loop of the Pennypack course.
- 50K: Two loops of a figure-8 course.
- 50 Miles: Three loops plus a one-mile dog leg per lap, with a 12.5-hour time limit.
The event features specialized support, including the "Oktoberfest Aid Station" which serves pretzels, grilled cheese, bacon, potatoes, and fruit. The course includes a twisty single-track section known as the Rollercoaster. All finishers receive a medal, and participants are provided with a gender-specific quarter-zip performance top.
The race atmosphere is centered on a festival theme. The post-race area includes music from an accordion player and food such as hot dogs and sauerkraut. Awards for top finishers and age group winners include traditional items from the Black Forest, such as cuckoo clocks and weather houses. Many participants and running clubs set up tents and pavilions to watch the event throughout the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
