Dirty German
The Dirty German is a trail race event held May 8, 2027, in Pennypack Park, Philadelphia, with a festival atmosphere around the start and finish. The event is described as a joint venture of a runner and a pastry chef and offers looped courses that introduce runners to trail ultrarunning on a fast, runnable layout.
- 25K One loop of the scenic Pennypack course.
- 50K Two loops of a figure 8 course on runnable terrain.
- 50 Mile Three loops plus a one mile dog leg each lap; 12.5 hour time limit.
The course is well marked and not highly technical. Surfaces vary by section and include smooth single track, wider flat gravel trail, occasional soft sandy spots along the creek, and about one mile of paved bike trail per loop. One named section, the Rollercoaster, is described as twisty single track.
Aid stations are staffed by local ultra-runners and offer items such as PB&J, grilled cheese, Gatorade, soda, fresh fruit, bacon and potatoes, and a themed Oktoberfest aid station with pretzels. The post race area features German style food, live music, community tents and pavilions, and a communal atmosphere. Awards include authentic German cuckoo clocks for overall winners and traditional German Weather Houses for age group top three placings. Every entrant receives a quarter zip performance top and a commemorative bib.
Refunds and deferrals are processed up to 30 days before race day and bib transfers are permitted up to 7 days before the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
