The Deer Lake Trail Run takes place at the Deer Lake Outdoor Center in Killingworth, Connecticut. This property consists of over 250 acres of green space and a dense network of trails managed by a nonprofit organization dedicated to outdoor education. Participants follow a course that covers approximately 5 miles of terrain within the rural landscape.

The route is a technical trail course that includes approximately 500 feet of elevation gain. Runners and hikers navigate well-marked paths that feature varying elevations and natural obstacles such as rocks, roots, and potential mud. The trails offer several scenic views throughout the property as the terrain changes.

Awards are provided for the overall male and female winners. Additionally, recognition is given to the top male and female finishers in several age categories:

  • 40-49 years
  • 50-59 years
  • 60-69 years
  • 70+ years

Participants under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course. T-shirts are provided to the first 100 individuals who enter the event.
