Dartmoor’s Ancient Field Boundaries: a 13 mile guided run
This event is a guided run of 13 miles (21 km) that explores Dartmoor’s network of hedges and stone walls. The route starts at Newbridge Car Park, Holne, and follows the River Dart to Bench Tor and Combestone Tor, where refreshments are provided. Participants pass through Bronze Age field systems, climb to Ryder’s Hill where there are ancient tin workings and hut circles, then descend toward Scorriton amid medieval field systems. The route continues through the village of Holne and returns into the Dart Valley for a picnic and a swim in the river.
The course involves 2,230 ft (680 m) of ascent and a total duration of around 4 hours. Participants must be aged 18 or over, wear trail shoes, have experience running on uneven ground, and possess sufficient fitness to complete a half marathon in under 4 hours. Parking at the meeting location is paid. The organiser is Proper Edges, a small business in South Devon offering traditional rural services, products, training and consultancy. Refunds are available up to 7 days before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
