Dartmoor Winter Traverse
Meldon, United Kingdom • 21 Feb 2026
Climb South West runs the Dartmoor Winter Traverse, a fully supported winter crossing of Dartmoor in February. The event offers a 50 km South-to-North route and a 30 km Princetown-to-Meldon option, open to runners and walkers. The route traverses remote moorland, passing Red Lake and the sources of the Erme and Plym rivers, then includes wild sections at Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor before joining the dismantled Rattlebrook railway to Meldon. It is largely off-road with no way markings, and winter weather and limited daylight are factors. Mountain leaders and guides provide navigation and first aid; GPS tracking is included.
