Dartmoor Winter Traverse

Meldon, United Kingdom • 21 Feb 2026

Dartmoor Winter Traverse

  • 50 km route from south to north, almost entirely off road.
  • 30 km option from Princetown to Meldon, same line from Princetown.

The event on 21 February 2026 is open to runners and walkers and is organised as a fully supported challenge rather than a race. The route crosses remote areas of open moor and includes unmarked sections; participants should expect difficult terrain and reduced daylight in February.

The course passes Red Lake and the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym, with a break in Princetown, then continues across the North Moor via Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor before following the Rattlebrook dismantled railway down to Meldon. The 50 km route is approximately 50 km in length and largely off road; the 30 km option follows the same line from Princetown.

Navigation support includes a GPX file, an Outdoor Active route, and recommended use of OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor maps. A team of qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides will be on course to help with navigation and to provide first aid; participants may choose to run or walk with a guide or independently. Entry fees include GPS tracker hire. Coach transport from the finish to the start will be available to book before the event. Cut off times at the final checkpoint are described as generous in the participant information. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
