Dartmoor Winter Traverse 2027
The Dartmoor Winter Traverse is a fully supported winter challenge across Dartmoor, open to runners and walkers. The event offers two route choices:
- 50 km Ultra route across open moorland.
- 30 km Challenge from Princetown to Meldon.
The full route runs broadly from south to north and passes locations such as Red Lake, the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym, Princetown, Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave, Chat Tor and the Rattlebrook dismantled railway before finishing at Meldon. The longer route is approximately 50 km (30 miles) and is almost entirely off road.
The course goes through remote, wild areas of open moor without way markings. A GPX file will be available and organisers recommend using it alongside OL 28 Dartmoor (1:25,000) or BMC Dartmoor (1:40,000) maps. Participant handbooks will list mandatory and suggested kit. Entry includes GPS tracker hire.
Qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides will be on the course to assist with navigation and provide first aid; participants may choose to follow guides or proceed independently. Cut off times at the final checkpoint are generous and transport to the finish is available for those who do not complete the route. Coach transport from the end to the start can be booked separately before the event.
Event date is 20 February 2027. Entries open 28 April 2026 and close 11 February 2027. Entry fees listed for 2027 are £95.50 for the 50 km and £69.50 for the 30 km. XCover is offered as an optional refund insurance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
