Dartmoor Winter Traverse
Meldon, United Kingdom • 21 Feb 2026
Event overview
The Dartmoor Winter Traverse is a fully supported challenge event on Saturday 21 February 2026. It runs from south to north across Dartmoor and is open to runners and walkers. Distances offered:
- 50 km Ultra, almost entirely off road
- 30 km Challenge, from Princetown to Meldon
Entry fees listed for 2026 are £91 for the 50 km and £66 for the 30 km. Entry includes GPS tracker hire. The finish location is Meldon Village Hall.
Route, terrain and navigation
The route crosses remote, open moorland with little or no way marking. It passes Red Lake and the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym, then runs north through Princetown, Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor before following the Rattlebrook dismantled railway into Meldon. Weather and short daylight hours in February are noted as important factors. A GPX file and Outdoor Active route map are available, and the organiser recommends using OS or BMC paper maps alongside GPS.
Support and logistics
Qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides provide navigation help and first aid on course; participants may run or walk with guides or independently. Cut off times at the final checkpoint are described as generous. Coach transport from the end to the start is available to book separately. Mandatory and suggested kit details are provided in the participant handbook. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
