Dartmoor Winter Traverse

Meldon, United Kingdom • 21 Feb 2026

Event overview

The Dartmoor Winter Traverse is a fully supported challenge across Dartmoor, running from south to north. The event on 21 February 2026 offers a long line across remote moorland and is open to runners and walkers. It is described as a challenge event rather than a race, with generous final checkpoint cut off times and support on course.

Route and logistics

The route passes Red Lake and the sources of the rivers Erme and Plym, includes a break in Princetown, then continues to Roos Tor, Tavy Cleave and Chat Tor. The final section follows the Rattlebrook dismantled railway down to Meldon. The course is almost entirely off road and mainly across wild, unmarked moorland. February weather, limited daylight and rough underfoot conditions are highlighted. Qualified Mountain Leaders and experienced guides provide navigation help and first aid; participants may follow a guide or proceed independently. A GPX file and Outdoor Active route are available. The participant handbook will list mandatory and suggested kit. Coach transport from the end to the start can be booked separately.
