Event overview
The Dartmoor Volcano Race, organised by OuterEdge Events, takes place on Saturday 12 September 2026 in Scorriton, TQ11 0JB on the edge of Dartmoor. The race is a 10.5-mile trail event over rough moorland tracks and trails with over 550 metres of ascent. The route reaches southern Dartmoor high ground including Ryders Hill and includes an ascent of the Red Lake Volcano. The minimum age on race day is 17 and entry is limited to 250 participants.
Course, support and rules
The course is fully marked and marshaled. Terrain is rocky, boggy and technical in places and the route includes three river crossings, one clapper bridge crossing, two bog sections, a long uphill opening section and a long downhill finish. There is at least one aid station around 6.3 miles offering drinks and a small selection of snacks. The event is run under UKA rules, licensed by the Trail Running Association and held with permission from Dartmoor National Park Authority and landowners.
Kit and finish
A mandatory kit list is required and includes trail running shoes, a pack or waistpack, whistle, foil survival blanket, waterproof jacket, headcover, mobile phone and the ability to carry 250 ml of liquid.
