Dartmoor Volcano Race : 12 September 2026

The Dartmoor Volcano Race is the 10th edition of an off-road event on the southern edge of Dartmoor. It takes place in the village of Scorriton (TQ11 0JB), about 4 miles from the A38 at the Buckfastleigh/Ashburton junction.

The course is 10.5-mile and 100% trail, with almost 650 m of ascent. The high-level route touches Ryder's Hill (515 m) and traverses rocky, boggy and sometimes very technical terrain. The route includes three river crossings, a clapper bridge crossing, two bogs, an ascent of the Red Lake Volcano and a long uphill start followed by a long downhill finish.

The event is marked and marshaled by experienced trail runners. All finishers receive a bespoke Volcano Race medal. Event T-shirts are available to purchase through the SiEntries system and can be collected on race day. A mandatory kit list applies. The race is organised under UK Athletics rules and licensed by the Trail Running Association, with permission from Dartmoor National Park Authority and landowners. Minimum age on race day is 17 years. Dogs are not permitted on the course with competitors due to insurance and permit limitations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
