Dartmoor Volcano Race - Saturday 12 September 2026
The Dartmoor Volcano Race is the 10th edition of a single-day trail event held on the edge of Dartmoor, starting and finishing in the village of Scorriton (TQ11 0JB). The course is a high-level, 100% trail route of approximately 10.5 miles with almost 650 m of ascent. It touches southern Dartmoor's highest local point, Ryder's Hill (515 m), and includes an ascent of the Red Lake Volcano.
The route crosses varied terrain including rocky and boggy sections that are sometimes technically demanding. Course features include three river crossings, one Clapper Bridge crossing, two bogs, a long uphill opening section and a long downhill finish. The event is fully marked and marshaled by experienced trail runners.
The race is run under UKA rules and licensed by the Trail Running Association, with permission from Dartmoor National Park Authority and landowners. Minimum age on race day is 17 years. No dogs are allowed on the course with competitors due to insurance and permit limitations. A mandatory kit list applies. All finishers receive a race medal and event T shirts are available for purchase through the entry system. An optional travel or entry cover is offered for those who wish to seek a refund for unforeseen circumstances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
