The Dartmoor Volcano Race is scheduled for Saturday 12 September 2026 and marks the event's tenth anniversary. The course is a 10.5-mile all-trail route on southern Dartmoor with over 550 metres of ascent. The race starts and finishes in the village of Scorriton (TQ11 0JB) on the edge of Dartmoor. Minimum age on race day is 17 years. Entry fees listed are £36 for UKA members and £38 for non-members, and entries are managed through an online system.
Route and race features
The fully marked and marshaled route visits high ground including Ryder's Hill and the Red Lake Volcano. Terrain includes rocky and boggy sections and is described as technical in places. Course features include 3 river crossings, 1 clapper bridge crossing, 2 bogs, a volcano ascent, a long uphill start and a long downhill finish. There is one aid station approximately 6.3 miles into the route offering drinks and a small selection of snacks. Finishers receive a bespoke medal and the first three male and female finishers receive trophies. The event has a race limit of 250.
Safety, kit and permissions
A mandatory kit list is required and includes trail running shoes, backpack or waistpack, whistle, foil survival blanket, waterproof jacket, headcover, a mobile phone with emergency number stored and capacity to carry 250 ml of liquid. Qualified paramedics will attend and marshals and sweepers monitor the course. The race is run under UKA rules, licensed by the Trail Running Association and held with permission of Dartmoor National Park Authority and the land owners.
