Dartmoor Volcano Race : 10th Edition
The Dartmoor Volcano Race is a single-day trail running event held in the village of Scorriton, TQ11 0JB, on the edge of Dartmoor. The 2026 event is the tenth edition, first held in 2015.
The course is a 10.5-mile, 100% trail route over rough moorland tracks and trails with almost 650 m of total ascent. The high-level route touches southern Dartmoor's highest point, Ryder's Hill (515 m), and includes an ascent of the Red Lake Volcano, which is visible from the surrounding area. Terrain on the route is rocky, boggy, and at times technically demanding.
The race course features several natural and built crossings and varied profile, including 3 river crossings, a clapper bridge crossing, 2 boggy sections, a long uphill start, and a long downhill finish. The event is fully marked and marshaled by experienced trail runners. Finishers receive a bespoke VOLCANO Race medal. Event T-shirts are available for purchase through the entry system and collected on race day.
Minimum age on race day is 17 years. The event is organised by OuterEdge Events and is run under UK Athletics and Trail Running Association rules with permission from Dartmoor National Park Authority and the land owners. No dogs are allowed on the course with competitors. A mandatory kit list is required. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
