Dartmoor Volcano Race
The Dartmoor Volcano Race is a 10.5-mile trail race on Dartmoor National Park held on Saturday 12 September 2026. The course has over 550 metres of ascent and uses the usual anti-clockwise route around the southern moor, visiting Pupers Hill, Snowdon and Ryders Hill, and passing the Red Lake Volcano.
The route is fully marked and marshaled. The course includes three river crossings, one clapper bridge crossing, two boggy sections, a volcano ascent, a long uphill start and a long downhill finish. An aid station is sited about 6.3 miles into the route offering drinks and a small selection of snacks. Qualified paramedics will attend and marshals and sweepers monitor runners on course.
The event starts and finishes in the village of Scoriton (TQ11 0JB). Parking is provided in a field roughly 300 metres from the village hall; there is only blue badge disabled parking and some marshals parking at the hall. The race is limited to 250 entrants.
Organisers provide bespoke medals for finishers and bespoke trophies for the first three male and female finishers. Bespoke t-shirts will be available for purchase. Results are published online within 24 hours of the event finish.
Mandatory kit reflects remote moorland conditions and includes trail running shoes, a backpack or waistpack, whistle, foil survival blanket, waterproof jacket, headcover, a mobile phone and capacity to carry 250 ml of liquid. A quick kit check takes place at registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
