Dartmoor Volcano Race
The Dartmoor Volcano Race is the 10th edition of a single-day trail event held on 12 September 2026 on the edge of Dartmoor. The course is a 10.5-mile route run entirely on trails and rough moorland tracks, with almost 650 m of ascent. The high-level route touches Ryder's Hill (515 m) and passes the Red Lake Volcano as its focal point.
Terrain includes rocky and boggy sections and sometimes extremely technical ground. The course features three river crossings, a clapper bridge crossing, two bogs, a volcano ascent, a long uphill start and a long downhill finish. The race starts and finishes in the village of Scorriton (TQ11 0JB), about four miles off the A38 at the Buckfastleigh/Ashburton junction.
The minimum age on race day is 17 years. Entries open on 19 September 2025 and close on 9 September 2026; entry fees listed are £36 for UKA members and £38 for non members. All finishers receive a bespoke Volcano Race medal. Event T shirts may be purchased through the SiEntries system and collected on race day.
The event is run under UKA rules and is licensed by the Trail Running Association, with permission from Dartmoor National Park Authority and the land owners. A mandatory kit list applies and further event information is available on the event website. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
