Dartmoor Volcano Race
The Dartmoor Volcano Race is the tenth edition of an established trail event, first held in 2015. The course is a high level, 100 percent trail route of 10.5 mile with almost 650 m of ascent. It touches southern Dartmoor's highest point, Ryder's Hill (515 m), and features the ascent of the Red Lake Volcano.
The route runs over rough moorland tracks and trails, with rocky, boggy and sometimes technical ground. The course includes three river crossings, a clapper bridge crossing, two bogs, one volcano ascent, a long uphill start and a long downhill finish. The race is fully marked and marshaled by experienced trail runners.
The event starts and finishes in the village of Scorriton, TQ11 0JB, on the edge of Dartmoor, about four miles off the A38 near the Buckfastleigh and Ashburton junction. Minimum age on race day is 17 years. Finishers receive a bespoke Volcano Race medal. Event T shirts are available for purchase through the entry system and collected on race day. A mandatory kit list applies.
The race is held under UKA rules, licensed by the Trail Running Association, and run with permission from Dartmoor National Park Authority and the land owners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
