Dartmoor in a Day Ultra
Dartmoor in a Day is a challenge event offering two route options across Dartmoor. The full route is approximately 50 km (30 miles), almost entirely off road, and starts at Okehampton before passing through Postbridge and finishing at Ivybridge. A shorter 30 km challenge begins at Postbridge and follows the remainder of the 50 km route to the same finish.
The route passes through wild, open moorland and includes named features such as the East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper Avon river, the Dartmoor Volcano, and views along the Erme valley out to sea.
Maps and navigation aids are provided; maps can be used with the Outdoor Active app and a GPX file is available. Organisers recommend carrying detailed maps such as OL 28 Dartmoor or BMC Dartmoor, and participant handbooks list mandatory and suggested kit.
Qualified Mountain Leaders provide route support and act as mobile marshals, assisting with route choice between checkpoints. Checkpoints with refreshment are located at two road crossings: Postbridge and Combestone Tor. Both distances finish at Ivybridge Community College where participants collect a finishers memento and food and drink is available. Cut off times at the final checkpoint are described as generous and transport to the finish is available for those who do not complete the route. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
