Dartmoor in a Day Ultra

Dartmoor in a Day takes place on Saturday 5 September 2026 and is presented as a fully supported challenge across Dartmoor. The route is approximately 50 km (30 miles) and is almost entirely off road. A shorter 30 km challenge follows the same final section, starting at Postbridge and joining the 50 km route.

Distances:

  • 50 km Ultra
  • 30 km Challenge

The route starts at Okehampton, passes through Postbridge and finishes at Ivybridge Community College. Notable sections include the East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper Avon river, the Dartmoor Volcano and views along the Erme valley out to sea. The course crosses mainly wild, open moorland.

Organisers provide GPX files and Outdoor Active-compatible maps, and recommend using these alongside OL 28 Dartmoor (1:25,000) or BMC Dartmoor (1:40,000) maps. GPS tracker hire is included with entry. Qualified Mountain Leaders act as mobile marshals, assist with navigation between checkpoints and provide first aid cover in remote areas. Refreshments are available at road-crossing checkpoints at Postbridge and Combestone Tor. Both events finish at Ivybridge Community College where food, drink and a finishers memento are provided.

Logistical support includes an optional coach shuttle service to the start. Under 18s may take part if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Entries open 10 October 2025 and close 27 August 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
