Dartmoor in a Day Ultra

Dartmoor in a Day offers two supported across‑moor courses that travel from Okehampton to Ivybridge via Postbridge. Distances available:

  • 50 km Ultra
  • 30 km Challenge

The route runs almost entirely off road across wild, open moor and passes through named features including the East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper Avon, the Dartmoor Volcano and views along the Erme valley out to sea. The 30 km course starts at Postbridge and follows the remainder of the 50 km route.

Maps for the route can be downloaded for use with the Outdoor Active app and a GPX file is provided for GPS use; paper map sheets OL 28 (1:25,000) or BMC Dartmoor (1:40,000) are recommended. Full mandatory and suggested kit details appear in participant handbooks. The entry fee includes GPS tracker hire.

Qualified Mountain Leaders act as mobile marshals, assist with route choice between checkpoints and provide first aid cover in remote areas. Refreshments will be available at checkpoints at Postbridge and Combestone Tor. Both events finish at Ivybridge Community College where finishers receive a memento and food and drink is available. A coach shuttle to the starts is offered as an optional extra. Under 18s may take part if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
