The Dark Rose is a night trail race held on 04 Feb 2026. The course is approx 5.5 miles and the minimum age to take part is 16. The race is organised under UK Athletics rules (TRA Permit 7904) and race headquarters will be at the Rose & Crown pub in Great Waltham (Minnows End, Chelmsford Road, CM3 1AG). This is a self-navigation event: competitors receive a written route description on the day, there are no route markings or marshals, and no GPX file will be provided. The event is not a mass start; participants will be timed out and back in at the finish. There are no drink or aid stations, and running or walking with dogs is not permitted.

Entry and logistics

Entries are limited to 75 places. Entry fees are listed as £12 for affiliated runners and £14 for unaffiliated runners, plus a booking or service fee (4% of the sign-up or minimum 50p). The entry closing date is 31 Jan 2026. The entry fee includes a post-race meal (Cottage Pie or Vegetable Lasagne). If entering other people, the organiser requires their emergency contact details, a mobile phone number to be carried on the day, an email address, and confirmation they accept the same terms and conditions before the closing date.
