Dark Dorset 10
The Dark Dorset 10 is a twilight, off road 10 km running event held at Eastbury Park, Tarrant Gunville, Blandford, Dorset DT11 8JQ. The start and finish are in the park in front of Eastbury House and the course follows an entirely off road route through woods and parkland.
Runners follow a route into the park at Chettle and return toward Eastbury House via Bloody Shard Gate, a location linked in local accounts to a historical skirmish in which a sergeant lost a hand that was later buried in a nearby churchyard. The route then passes Chettle Long Barrow before returning to Eastbury Park. The drive in Eastbury Park is associated with a reported headless horseman apparition that is said to appear at midnight.
Medals, trophies and refreshments are provided. Canicross is not permitted. Entries are limited to 200 participants.
Practical access information notes that Eastbury Park is reached from the A354 Blandford to Salisbury road at Tarrant Hinton; the entrance is on the right about 2.5 km after turning off the A354.
