Dark Dorset 10
The Dark Dorset 10 is a twilight off-road race held on Saturday 7 November 2026. The course is 10 km and has its start and finish in the park in front of Eastbury House.
Participants follow an entirely off-road route that leads through woods into the park at Chettle. The outward and return legs pass through Bloody Shard Gate, a location associated with a historical skirmish between soldiers and the Kings chase keepers in which a sergeant lost a hand; that hand was buried in a local churchyard and is said in local tradition to become restless and search for its owner in this corner of the Cranborne Chase.
The route also passes the Chettle Long barrow before returning to Eastbury Park. Local tradition associated with the park mentions a headless horseman driving a coach pulled by headless horses, an apparition the organiser describes as appearing at midnight.
