The route includes a crossing of the frigid, fast-moving Eagle River and offers mountain and glacier views. Wildlife on the route can include bears, bees, and moose. There are no course markers or aid stations. Hikers commonly require two or more days to traverse the trail; top competitors can complete the course in under three hours.
