Crow Pass Crossing
Crow Pass Crossing is a backcountry footrace routed from above Girdwood to the Eagle River Nature Center. The course measures about 23 miles and traces a historic trail that was first run as a longer 28 mile adventure in 1984.
The route offers mountain and glacier views and a highly technical trail surface. Runners encounter sloping snowfields, areas of chest-high brush, and a crossing of the frigid, fast-moving Eagle River. The trail includes many rocks and roots and passes through habitat where bears, moose, and bees may be present. There are no course markers or aid stations along the route.
Hikers commonly take two or more days to traverse the trail, while the fastest racers complete it in under three hours. The event has been organized since 2018 as a fundraiser by the Anchorage nonprofit Healthy Futures, the signature program of the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame. The 41st edition is scheduled for July 18, 2026, and registration is set to open on April 1, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
